Thousands of anti-government protesters defied a state of emergency, gathering in large crowds in Bangkok after they forced the cancellation of a 16-nation Asian summit meeting and clashing early Monday with the police, who fired on the crowds.
The protesters attacked a car that apparently was carrying Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva as he left the Interior Ministry after announcing the emergency decree, which bans gatherings of more than five people in Bangkok and its suburbs. — NY Times
A crowd of more than 10,000 young Moldovans materialized seemingly out of nowhere on Tuesday to protest against Moldova’s Communist leadership, ransacking government buildings and clashing with the police.
