Post-Irene Beach/Dunes erosion, Narragansett, RI.
Typically, the dunes here flow into the beach. That is, there isn’t/wasn’t much of a transition from beach to dunes.
Waves from Irene chewed out chunks though, pulled sand from the beach back into the ocean and now you have what you see.
